How we are becoming more inclusive in our work across the Humber

The purpose of Active Humber is to support people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to improve their health and wellbeing by taking part in regular physical activity and sport, in particular to support the inactive and under represented groups to become more physically active.
One of the ways we do this is ensuring we offer disability specific and inclusive opportunities through our funded programmes; Satellite Clubs has prioritised funding for providers delivering to young people with a disability. Funding is awarded based on the need and can be disability specific opportunities, inclusive opportunities that support anyone from a community to participate, and/or activity specific or multi activity based projects; the School Games programme organises and supports the delivery of County wide events offering competitive and participatory sport and physical activity opportunities for young people with a Special Educational Need, as well as supporting young disabled people to undertake training and volunteer at events; the Primary Sport Premium is funding allocated directly to primary schools to improve the provision of PE and sport in schools, Active Humber, alongside other key partners supports Primary Schools to achieve self-sustaining improvement in the quality of PE and sport in primary schools against key performance areas which includes ensuring all pupils are engaged in regular physical activity including pupils with an impairment and supporting staff to develop knowledge and skills which are needed to ensure all pupils engage in regular physical activity.
Alongside this work Active Humber are also developing a LEAD (Leading, Equitable and Accessible Delivery) toolkit to ensure we embed better practices in the provision of sport and physical activity to disabled people across the Humber. This work will lead to a Humber wide improvement plan which will support Active Humber to impact positively upon increasing the number of disabled people participating in sport & physical activity in the Humber, developing understanding and awareness of of disability equality to partners/providers and introducing inclusive opportunities to new audiences.
All of this is undertaken in partnership with the Activity Alliance who nationally are responsible for leading on sport and physical activity for disabled people. As part of their commitment to influencing and inspiring more opportunities for disabled people to become more active they have designed these 10 principles 'Talk to Me' to support activity to be more appealing for disabled people.
In our work around inclusivity we are striving to reflect our four key messages
INACTIVITY - We are working hard to get the inactive active
INCLUSIVITY - We are working just as hard to get the excluded, included in physical activity and sport
PARTNERSHIP WORKING - We want to work together to make things better in the Humber
ADDING VALUE - Active Humber is a trusted and valued charity
