School Games

The sixth year of the Humber School Games has been a huge success and we thank everyone for playing their part. This year has seen 20 separate events take place and over 2000 young people have competed in a variety of sports, with a further 200 volunteering their time to make the events run. Competitions have been held across the Humber sub-region and primary, secondary and special schools from all 4 areas have been involved.

The competitions climaxe with our multi sports event at Hymers College on Friday 13th July. Last year the venue provided superb facilities to host the 8 sports taking place and also the opening and closing ceremonies. Once again great efforts were seen by all athletes and the spirit of the Games really showed through, which we look forward to repeating again this year.

Last year saw our second ever Project Ability Games which was held at St. Marys College, Hull. This event was specifically designed for disabled athletes and special schools from across the Humber were invited to attend. 80 athletes took part in the event and competed in Golf, New Age Kurling, Boccia and Table Cricket. This event was a resounding success and has lead to a second event this academic year, it was great to see all of the athletes enjoying themselves, we aim to keep this event in the calendar for future years.

Active Humber would like to thank everyone that makes the Humber School Games from the facilities that have hosted, parents, athletes and schools that took part. A specific thank you needs to go to all of the young leaders who took time out of their diaries to officiate and held run the various events that took place. All the young leaders do an outstanding job in their roles in what could have been very pressured environments. We would also like to say a big thanks to our sponsors.
